Advent Rosaries

This lovely rosary boasts 8mm Czech Fire polished glass beads, in the traditional Advent wreath colors.

The first two decades are purple for Hope and Preparation of the impending birth of Our Lord and Savior.

The third is pink for the Joy of the Christ Child's birth.

The fourth is again purple for the Love Christ has for humankind.

The fifth decade is white to signify the purity of the Christ Child.

I have chosen the Pardon Crucifix and a Mary center with a circle of stars. All findings are nickel silver, including the wire.

This gorgeous rosary is made with Amethyst, Natural Rose Quartz and Dyed (White) Mother of Pearl. The Pater beads are 8mm Dyed Mother of Pearl while the Hail Marys are 6mm.

The first two decades are purple for Hope and Preparation of the impending birth of Our Lord and Savior.

The third is pink for the Joy of the Christ Child's birth.

The fifth decade is white to signify the purity of the Christ Child.

I have chosen the Pardon crucifix for this rosary, which has attached indulgences. A sheet explaining the indulgences is included.

Definition of Indulgence

The word indulgence originally meant kindness or favor. In Latin, it meant the remission of a tax or debt. Under Roman law, it was used to express release from captivity or punishment. In this instance, an indulgence is given to remit the temporal punishment of sin that has been forgiven.

These indulgences have been declared upon the Pardon Crucifix by Pope St. Pius X in 1905 and have been approved in the pardon of the living and the souls in Purgatory in 1907. The lengths of the indulgences were repealed in the new Enchiridion, and the indulgences were granted to remit the guilt of the sin committed:

1. Whoever carries on his person the Pardon Crucifix, may thereby gain an indulgence.

2. For devoutly kissing the Crucifix, an indulgence is gained.

3. Whoever says one of the following invocations before this crucifix may gain each time an indulgence: "Our Father who art in heaven, forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." "I beg the Blessed Virgin Mary to pray to the Lord our God for me."

4. Whoever, habitually devout to this Crucifix, will fulfill the necessary conditions of Confession and Holy Communion, may gain a Plenary Indulgence on the following feasts: On the feasts of the Five Wounds of our Lord, the Invention of the Holy Cross, the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the Immaculate Conception, and the Seven Sorrows (Dolors) of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

5. Whoever, at the moment of death, fortified with the Sacraments of the Church, or contrite of heart, in the supposition of being unable to receive them, will kiss this Crucifix and ask pardon of God for his sins, and pardon his neighbor, will gain a Plenary Indulgence.

The center medal depicts Mary crowned with stars on the front and Jesus on the reverse.

All findings, including wire, are nickel silver.

First Sunday of Advent

Advent Rosary available at www.therosarylady.com

Advent is upon us.  It is the season of waiting for the birth of our Lord Jesus.  A time of repentance, a time of hope and a time of joy and celebration.

Advent in my home has changed a lot since my children have grown older.  We no longer place as much importance on the Advent candles and wreath.  I find that very disappointing, and somewhat sorrowful.

This year I assume I will pretty much keep Advent within my heart.

Nevertheless, it can be a time of great joy for you and yours.  Hold fast to the teachings and traditions, and set them forth in your childrens' memories.  They can one day follow suit and share the wonders of the Season with their children too.

Week One:  We wait in solemn anticipation, knowing our Lord is out there, somewhere.  Travelling upon a dusty rocky trail, safe within His Mother's Womb.  They must go and  be counted.  HE is all that counts in the end.  We must remember His journey.

Our Blessed Mother must be tired and aching and wishing for an end to this trek.  Father Joseph must be feeling a certain heartache that he should have to put his beloved through such torment at this time of her pregancy.  But they are devout, they know what must be done.  And they do it without complaint, and without remorse.

I wish I could do so also.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you.  Save Souls.

Save all the souls who are lost and abandoned and frightened during this time.  Help them to understand that you are there for them.  Show them the way... of waiting patiently... and watching... for that bright Star that will lead them to the Savior.

Peace be with you!

Christmas 2011 -- Birth of a New Tradition

Disclaimer:  I read this post as an email sent by a fellow team mate on Etsy.  I agree wholeheartedly with all it entails, and I am blatantly re-posting verbatim.  My only addition would be "Buy handmade, buy HOME made, buy American made".  Let us band together and help one another this Christmas season.

Christmas 2011 -- Birth of a New Tradition

As the holidays approach, the giant Asian factories are kicking into high gear to provide Americans with monstrous piles of cheaply produced goods -merchandise that has been produced at the expense of American labor. This year will be different. This year Americans will give the gift of genuine concern for other Americans. There is no longer an excuse that, at gift giving time, nothing can be found that is produced by American hands. Yes there is! It's time to think outside the box, people. Who says a gift needs to fit in a box, wrapped in Chinese produced wrapping paper? Think about these ideas instead:  Everyone -- yes EVERYONE gets their hair cut. How about gift certificates from your local American hair salon or barber?  Gym membership? It's appropriate for all ages who are thinking about some health improvement.  Who wouldn't appreciate getting their car detailed? Small, American owned detail shops and car washes would love to sell you a gift certificate or a book of gift certificates.  Are you one of those extravagant givers who think nothing of plonking down the Benjamins on a Chinese made flat-screen?  Perhaps that grateful gift receiver would like his driveway sealed, or lawn mowed for the summer, or driveway plowed all winter, or games at the local golf course. There are a bazillion owner-run restaurants -- all offering gift certificates.  And, if your intended isn't the fancy eatery sort, what about a half dozen breakfasts at the local breakfast joint.  Remember, folks this isn't about big National chains -- this is about supporting your home town Americans with their financial lives on the line to keep their doors open.  How many people couldn't use an oil change for their car, truck or motorcycle, done at a shop run by the American working guy?  Thinking about a heartfelt gift for mom? Mom would LOVE the services of a local cleaning lady for a day.  My computer could use a tune-up, and I KNOW I can find some young guy who is struggling to get his repair business up and running.  OK, you were looking for something more personal. Think about your local artists and crafts people . . . paintings, photography, sculptures, jewelry, pottery, hand made sweaters and scarves - rosariesPlan your holiday outings at local, owner operated restaurants and leave your server a nice tip.  And, how about going out to see a play or ballet at your hometown theatre.  Musicians need love too, so find a venue showcasing local bands.  Honestly, people, do you REALLY need to buy another ten thousand Chinese lights for the house? When you buy a five dollar string of light, about fifty cents stays in the community.  If you have those kinds of bucks to burn, leave the mailman, trash guy or babysitter a nice BIG tip.  You see, Christmas is no longer about draining American pockets so that China can build another glittering city. Christmas is now about caring about US, encouraging American small businesses to keep plugging away to follow their dreams. And, when we care about other Americans, we care about our communities, and the benefits come back to us in ways we couldn't imagine. THIS is the new American Christmas tradition.  How else can you help?   Forward this to everyone on your mailing list. Post it to discussion groups.  Throw up a post on Craigslist in the "Rants & Raves" section in your city.  Send it to the editor of your local paper and radio stations, and TV news departments.  This is a revolution of caring about each other. Isn't that what Christmas is about?

PS: this plan works for birthdays, anniversaries and any other gift giving occasion.
