Cruz de Caravaca Rosary 

History of the Cruz de Caravaca: 
In the early 8th century, Arabs and Berbers invaded the Iberian peninsula and occupied the territory. It took almost 800 years for Christians to reconquest the land.

In about the middle of that period, in the year 1231 (or 1232 by some accounts), a miracle occurred in the southeastern Spanish town of Caravaca de la Cruz. The town is set among the rugged sierras of Murcia, which at that time was still a Moorish kingdom under Zeyt-Abuzeyt. Being several generations away from the initial invaders, he was from a line of well-established monarchs and one of his duties was to protect the region from invasion by the Christians. The Christian Reconquesta took various forms; from fighting to gradual infiltration through missionaries. One such Christian missionary was Don Gínes Pérez Chirinos de Cuenca. He was captured and taken before the Muslim king who was curious about certain aspects of the Christian faith. In particular, he was interested in the Christian celebration of the Last Supper and asked the missionary to demonstrate the procedure. One can imagine the priest would be reluctant to do this - in those days only believers were present during the sacrament. Nevertheless, he agreed and the king arranged for the necessary apparatus: an altar draped with a pall cloth, bread and wine, and some candles. One important element, however, was missing: the cross. The missionary explained that the presence of a cross was critical to the Eucharist and he could not continue without one. The king exclaimed: "So what is that?" (but in Iberian, of course), pointing to something at the window. From the heavens, two angels appeared carrying a cross, which they placed on the altar and then disappeared.

The priest continued with the Mass. In the Catholic Church, when the bread and wine are consecrated during Mass, they cease to be bread and wine, and become instead the body and blood of Christ. The empirical appearances are not changed, but the reality is. When missionary Don reached the consecration stage, the king saw a beautiful baby instead of the bread (Host). The king was so taken aback by this miraculous image that he, and his family, converted to Christianity and asked to be baptized into the Christian faith. Many believe that the cross delivered by the angels included a piece of the True Cross.

Guide me, Holy Cross of Caravaca, in the traffic of my terrestrial life and illuminate me. Preserve me in the most dangerous moments of my life, mainly when my health is precarious. I beg you, blessed Cross, that your support come into to my life and I be well in order to continue maintaining my willpower and my health. Amen.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Niño de Atocha Rosary 

This beautiful rosary is made with 8mm gemstones: New Jade Aves and Peach Aventurine Paters. The center medal depicts Our Lady of Guadalupe on the front and Niño de Atocha on the reverse. The simple crucifix is marked Italy and Chapel on the reverse. Both are made of nickel silver, as is the wire used to string the rosary.

Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe

Our Lady of Guadalupe Goldstone and Indian Bloodstone Gemstone Handmade Catholic Rosary

 

This lovely rosary is made from 6mm Goldstone (a man-made glittering glass) beads for the Hail Marys. They are absolutely stunning in the light! My photos do not give them justice. 

The Our Fathers on the tail portion of the rosary are 8mm Indian Bloodstone gemstone beads. On the circle portion, the Our Fathers are silver medals of Mater Dolorosa (Mary with pierced heart) on one side, and colored pictures of the Virgen de Guadalupe on the other. 

The silver center medal is matching, with Jesus crowned in thorns on one side and the colored picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe on the other. The nickel silver cut out crucifix is marked Italy on the reverse.

Our Lady,  fill me with peace today as I go about my way trying to accomplish the various things required of me.  Some days, like today, life seems so very hectic.  Wrap me in your mantle, place your hands upon mine, and whisper in my ear....

Virgin A Day ~ Day 12 ~

Today has been a very crazy day for me, I apologize for being tardy...

Being the final day of Virgin A Day I wanted to share with you the remainder of the Virgin images throughout my home and life.

I am sure many others have done the same, but we seem to have a lot in common ~ this "tribe" of Rebecca's corazon.

I must say, I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this meme. Each and every day I looked forward with such anticipation to visiting everyone's blogs, and each day it was a gift of beauty to behold. In words, in images, in so many art forms, the Virgin made her presence made known to each of us. I believe she has also been a matchmaker of sorts, leading us into new friendships and camaraderie.

Thank you Rebecca, for hosting this event. You have brought me great joy!

My Personal Rosary

My personal rosary - front


This is my personal rosary.  It was given to me by the parish of Church of the Holy Spirit in Memphis Tennessee, on the occasion of my Confirmation into the Catholic Church.

 



This particular rosary is the reason I became The Rosary Lady.  It has  evolved over the years, as have I.  It is one of my most prized possessions and I will cherish it always.  

As my family sat together in the front center pew of the church, a woman behind me tapped me on the shoulder and asked "Is this a special day for you?"  I am sure she expected me to answer that one of the kids was being baptized, confirmed or receiving some other sacrament.  This time it was me, and when I told her that, she seemed a bit surprised.  Nonetheless, she began rummaging around in her purse and finally pulled out a medal of Our Lady of Medjugorje.  She said she'd gotten it on a pilgrimage there, and this morning somehow knew to put that medal in her purse.  She handed it to me, saying "this is for you!"  I thanked her and turned about as Mass was beginning.  



My personal rosary - reverse



Later, after I had been confirmed, Father Byrnes handed me a small wicker basket.  Inside was my rosary.  Father asked me to please accept this gift from the parish.  I had never seen a Job's Tear rosary, and my children all fawned over it and said how lovely it was.  

I found a medal of St Gerard Majella, patron saint of Motherhood, amongst my husband's belongings.  He wasn't sure where it came from and said that I could have it.  I attached it to my rosary, to remind myself to pray for strength and to always be a good mother to my sons.  

A friend told me he was going on a European pilgrimage.  I requested that he send his rosary to me, while taking my rosary with him on his travels.  He agreed, and purchased a medal from  the places he visited to bring home to me.  

One of the places he travelled to was  Lisieux, France, and the Carmelite Monastery where Saint Therese spent many years.  My friend brought back a rose shaped medal with Saint Therese on the reverse.  I try to  remember to be as a child, and spend my days in the service of others, as Saint Therese did. 

Another stop along his trip was Assisi, Italy, birthplace of Saint Francis.  My friend brought a medal with soil from Assisi encapsulated on the reverse.  My oldest son's name is Franklin, I always say a quick prayer for him when praying this decade of the rosary.  I am grateful to my friend for taking me on a "virtual pilgrimage" by way of my rosary. 

There is a medal of Saint Patrick, which also belonged to my sons' father, whose middle name was Patrick.  Our son is a "Junior", so I pray on this medal for him. 

My brother in law, John suffered and passed due to Cancer.  I hate Cancer.  I attached a Saint Peregrine medal to my rosary in honor of him and prayed often for his healing.  But it was his time and God called him Home.  Since then many others have asked me to pray for their family and friends, and more of my own have been stricken with this dread disease.  The medal will remain on my rosary forever for all those who suffer... and those who survive. 

I have a special devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe.  I cannot explain it well, I just know that She draws me in, and calls on me often.  Mother Mary places her hands on mine whenever I am making a rosary or chaplet.  It is my calling, my vocation and She sees to it that I remain devoted to it and to Her Son.  I have attached a medal to remind me of that calling.

In honor of this special rosary of mine, I have decided to host a giveaway on this blog.  I have made another Job's tears rosary, similar to my own, and attached a medal which was blessed in Medjugorje during one of the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
